I am visiting cracow in poland in feb. anywhere we should visit whilst there?
Answers:
Krakow is beautiful place to visit, the castle is just amazing, and in the town center is very picturesque. If you appreciate churches you will love the main church, and the whole town has a kind of magic into it.
It's not a big town like Warsaw or Prague, it's just the perfect size because everything is in a walking distance.
When i was there, i chose not to go to the concentration camps, but i know there are many buses that go that way.
Have a nice trip!
death camps
Try to go to Nova Hutta.. or the Zwielicka Salt Mines - these are very popular and are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Good luck!
Salt mines? You can forget that. I'm going to play in the snow and drink vodka in my new hat and gloves!
for how long are you going there?
everything is worth visit even death camps. but i am sure you'll find loads of info about Krakow in English. have a great time and don't forget to visit polish clubs ;-)
I agree with jamsie. The saltmines at wieliczka are really pretty and are the perfect balm for the soul after seeing Auschwitz, which of course, you inevitably will go to. You can also quite easily spend all day in the main square (Glowny Rynek), shopping, drinking coffee and people-watching.
Krakow's really gorgeous. I'm jealous!
why bother going to Poland ? come to West London and you'll feel as though youre in Poland without having to spend money on airfares or hotels etc :)
As other folk have said, Auschwitz, Wieliczka and Nowa Huta are all must-dos.
To get there:
Auschwitz - bus or train to Oswiecim. Bus is probably easiest as it drops you off at the museum - cost 7zl
Wieliczka - train or bus
Nowa Huta - tram
Also there's a tram tour (http://www.tramtour.orbis.krakow.pl/inde. but it's stopped now for winter.
I've not been, but there's a Pope-special train to Wadowice (www.pociag-papieski.pl)
Last but not least, CK Browar is a must if you're into good beer - http://www.ckbrowar.krakow.pl/index2.php.
