Answers:
I went to Cancun twice. The first one by cruise 5 years ago and the last one 4 years ago (Sheraton hotel). I enjoyed the trip very much. It's true that the city is very commercial and full of tourists and bars etc. but the place it's gorgeous if you have a adventurous personality. I spent more time going around places by public bus and walking so got to see very nice hidden places including archeological parks. And at later on you can always go back to the typical nightlife. Talk to the locals, they are very helpfull and polite. And they give you great tips about how to get to new places. If you have the chance take a bus all the way to Tulum (it's one of the last cities of Mexico and were some of the Mayan's ruins are). In my opinion the ocean has the most amazing color that I have ever seen. Unbelievable turquoise. They have a great fire reef to go snorkeling. You can also take a ferry to "Isla las mujeres". The coast line has basically 1 main street (like A1A in the US) so you can take the public bus (they are more like big vans with a/c and very cheap) and get anywhere. Be carefull with taxis ($$). Cancun can be quite expensive if you stay around the tourist area, almost everything same as dollar (most things are actually charged in US$). The food is really good. And don't worry about hurricanes. It's true they can always happen, but the hurricane season ends in november 1st and this year has been quite calm so far. (my bf would say it's bad luck to talk about it. lol). Enjoy your trip!!
No i havent. Thanks for the 2 points though.
Yeah went to Cancun in 2001 and hated it, so moved down the coast to Playa Del Carmen. Cancun was full of tourists, noisy, dirty and generally horrible. Sorry didn't want to spoil your holiday, but wanted to be honest with you. There are also hugh hurricane risks in November, as that is when I went and got caught up in hurricane Michelle. If I were you I would try further down the coast as it is quieter, less touristy and more authentic. If however you prefer the high life and partying etc etc than Cancun will probably suit you fine. Good luck and hope you enjoy your hols, Mexico is a very beautiful country.
I've been to Cancun which is a great distination and the weather is always great. Down side was the mosquitoes (relentless feeders of human blood especially new blood). The locals tend to pester you constantly to buy something from their shops by dragging you in off the streets. But don't let that spoil the resort, the food is great too. But be careful, some of the chills will blow your head off!
No, but I know someone who has.
