What's the big deal about the festive lights in Oxford Street, London?

Environmentalist say they contribute to global warming unnecessarily, but don't homes, shops and offices use huge amounts of electricity also and pump CO2 into the atmosphere

Answers:
They are usually a let down, attractive some years a waste of space others. I like the big tree in trafalgar square. We all use too much electricity everywhere. What do we do instead, solar, wind power or ? !! Blame the politicians and peoples laziness for not taking any interest in alternative green issues. It got discussed in the 1970's then forgotten.
People who moan about them are just killjoys. London is one of the greatest cities on the planet, we need to show it off and if this means dressing it up with colour then so be it. Each bulb used is sponsored and the money goes to charity, so they are a worthy cause. Other cities (New York shops, Champs Elysees in Paris) dress themselves in luminescent colour - why do people moan about London?

Personally though, I like the Carnaby Street lights as they are always avant garde and strange. One year it was giant LED bulbs. Last year it was hanging 'shards' of light which looked like 'something out of a provincial discotheque.'
its something out of this world so exciting and all the caracters frm films
