Definately DO GO!
Some people go and get sick because they don't take proper precautions for a tropical climate. Most are too busy drinking and being lobsters on the beach. They get so drunk they forget their medication and whatever other precautions they need. They toast in the sun untill their brains boil, while all the locals are sitting in the shade. No wonder some silly people get sick.
With this sort of attitude it's better they holiday in Majorca, Ibiza and such other places more akin to their lifestyle. The Gambia is tropical and a Muslim country this needs to be respected, if you want to have a good holiday and be well.
Check this website, they run great holidays and state that "no one on their trips has ever got malaria", because they make sure, as your hosts, that they look after you.
exactly
Don't go. Everyone who I know has been despite having all the vaccinations to travel have become very sick during their holiday.
There is only one place to get all you want and it's great value for money to boot!
The Garden Guest House, Bakau, The Gambia.
Having been going there for over 14years I can assure you that if you don`t take care then as with anywhere else you will become sick.Sensible precautions for a first visit include the jabs, the tabs, bottled water, take condoms, plenty to do & see have a great time.-
i have been and thought it was great value for money.yes you do have to be careful,i went in rainy season, had all my jabs and malaria tablets, still got malaria when i was there but the tablets treated it soon after getting it.you must drink bottled water and dont have ice cubes in your drinks.i wouls definately go back again as the weather, food, people and culture are fantastic.
Definately go. Take the vaccinations malari tablets etc.
Great chemist in Banjul, the Pharmacist is really good.
Very friendly, very safe, do go out and about. Go to the crocodile pool. Use the official tour guides they are not paid for their work you have to tip them. They are cheaper and have loads of local knowledge and the money stays in The Gambia and not back to Europe. Use local transport cheap safe and fun.
All in all a great experience one not to be missed.
You will have no problem with the food.
If you want to give money you can give at the source not to a home run charity.
Having lived here off and on since 1994 I can tell you the real truth about this place. Go to our website it has masses of info., and photos.
There is no need to suffer malaria or hassle from bumsters, nor any other negative thing. We know how to keep people happy and healthy whilst here with us.
