Go to www.immi.gov.au and there is a link for online visa applications - you need to apply for a Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417) to enable you to go to Oz for a year and be able to work for up to 3mths at a time to any one employer.
It costs around $185 (AUD) and when I applied last year it cost roughly about £70, and the exchange rate is fairly constant.
Filling out the online form doesn't take long, and you can keep track of its progress via a link on the above website. It can take a few weeks for your Visa to be approved, but if Australia has a shortage of skilled workers in your occupation, you could get approval within a week.
There may be other websites that offer cheaper ways of getting a Visa, but don't touch them with a bargepole, coz you dont want to be on a plane for 24hrs and get turned by immigration at the airport if your Visa isn't valid.
Best of luck, I came back from Oz in January after spending a year on a Working Holiday Visa and had the time of my life!
You need to contact the Australian Embassy - look them up on the web. They will give you a number to call and they will send the foms out. If you only want to go for a year then you should have no issue with getting a VISA, after 25 then it becomes more difficult.
I can't remember how much cost is involved - I don't remember it being much. You do need to be able to prove you have a certain amount of money in the bank before they'll give you one though.
I went about 6 years ago and I think it was £2000. But you can always get someone to lend you the money - get a bank statement from the bank and then give the money back.
Good Luck
You need to apply from the local australian embassy or consulate nearest to you. I can't remember how long it takes - about a month I think. Not sure if you have to pay or not.just make sure you don'tget it too early. Remember it is only valid for a year from its date of issue. Have a good time.
