Dalwhinnie is often regarded as the highest village in Scotland. Whilst it's the highest in the Highlands there are others outside of the Highlands which are higher.

Wanlockhead in Dumfries and Galloway is actaully the highest village being 467m above sea level compared to Dalwhinnie at 358m.

Wanlockhead
Wanlockhead - South West of Scotland in the Lowther Hills
At 1531 feet (468.08m) above sea level is alittle village that time has almost forgotten. Called Winlocke until 1566, from the Gaelic Cuingaelach, meaning narrowness or narrow place.
Wanlockhead is located in beautiful South West Scotland in the Lowther Hills and is the highest village in Scotland at 1531ft. (463m) above sea level. It lies 30 miles North of Dumfries and owes its existence to the mineral deposits in the surrounding hills. Today it can be easily accessed by either the M74 or the A76, via the scenic Mennock Pass.
Edinburgh..there always stoned there!!
Ben Nevis is always crowded with walkers. It will be a village soon
Yes, it's definitely Wanlockhead! I lived there as a kid and attended the highest school in Scotland which alas is no more. It used to be a centre for lead mining and although the miners had very hard lives and died young they had a passion for learning. I think Wanlockhead had the oldest lending library in Britain. It's a place well worth a visit! There's a village pub and the sheep still freely roam the streets.
Aye, Wanlockhead is the highest
