Should there be single supplements for the solo traveller?
I am a single traveller and have been deterred from many holidays because of single supplements
Answers:
There should be flight discounts for skinny people.
Why should I pay the same as a fat person yet can't take any more luggage on than they can?
There shouldn't be, especially in places that put you in rooms with just a single bed, which I've had in the past.
Sorry ignore me if UR question was about discounts 4 single travellers & not about herbal supplements.
Guess I may have got the wrong end of the stick!
2 points thanx!
If the room is of a lower standard i.e. smaller, only one bed, no balcony, sub standard view etc then definitely NO.
If however the room is the same them yes, a small supplement should apply
the holiday company charges a single supplement because they base their pricing on 2 sharing. there is more profit for 2 (or more) sharing as they only have to offer 1 lot of accomodation. Obviously, they stress the 'cheapness' of the holiday, rather than their profit margin part of it.
As a single person, you don't make them the same profit, as you are only paying 1 price, but you are taking up the same amount of accomodation as 2 people. the single supplememnt is to make up for their lost profit.
You can book your own holiday, with travel and accomodation seperate, but then you don't get the bulk discount rates that holiday companies get..It's a tough life..It's almost worth getting a GF (or BF, whatever floats your boat)
Although there are "single" rooms, the space per person in a single room is much more than the space per person in a double room, and the paperwork and organisation is hardly any more for a couple than for a single. hence you get less profit, hence yes, I agree on single supplements.
Having said that, there are some great travel orgs (like intrepidtravel.com - who i've travelled with 4 times now) who don't charge a single supplement (as long as you're willing to share a room with someone of the same sex).
No. It's nothing but an imposition and any company charging a supplement should be told to go and stuff it.
Do you realise if you were to book outside of a travel agent you wouldn't get a single supplement? The price would most likely be about the same however.
I am a travel agent and I shall clarify to ALL of you why you get charged a single supplement!
Tour operators price packages PER PERSON. HOTELIERS price PER ROOM. So, tour operators do not get charged by the hotel per person but per room. The tour operators divide up the charges to make a per person rate.
Hope you are able to follow this.
So you as a single traveller are effectively paying BY THE ROOM. If you were to pay just the standard rate then the tour operator is losing money.
Why don't you go on line and book a flight and hotel separatly? You won't be paying travel agents commision that way and you would not see a single supplement on your bill!
Or you could just find a friend!
Ihave also been deterred like you. Ithink there should not be single supplements. Could this be classed as discrimination against single people?
Try the travel companies that cater for single people - they have no single supplements. I have travelled all over the place with both Solos and Travelsphere Just You - both are great
There shouldn't be a single supplement for solo travellers (travelers), especially as the numbe of single people rises around the world.
There are now a number of websites dedicated to offering trips for solo / single travellers (travelers) without charging supplements.
No it is unfair, I suppose most holidays are packaged towards 2 in a room. I believe it is a scam by tour operators
