Doing a Caribbean cruise, any tips when ashore , is it cheaper to book with Ship or on land independaley ?
Answers:
My husband and I have found that its cheaper not to book with the ships travel shop. (They can be very expensive) Especially on the Caribbean Cruise, on most of the islands, there are friendly and helpful guys waiting outside the dock with big people carriers to couples or groups, you discuss the cost before you get in the vehicle, we never had any problems, not sure about Jamaica, did not go there.
on land definitely, the ships tend to rip you off.
just swim
ive never done a cruise ,but everywere iv'e been abroad i make my bookings independently and save a fortune
Cruise ship tours are expensive. However, if you have never been to the specific destination it might be best to take one of the many cruise tours offered. On some islands you could simply rent a cab and go to many or all of the places offered in the tour on other islands this might not be a good deal. Every island is different.
Booking independently is cheaper. The only problem is that some things you might really want to do may be all booked by the ship up by the time you dock. Certain tours and swimming with the dolphins go really fast. Try to find places on the web to book before you go no the cruse.

Once ashore, get to a tourbus and see the island. eat some local food, buy some souveniers, go for a swim and enjoy it as much as possible.
book on land if possible.
it depends on the destinations, some cruise-ships dock sometimes right downtown like on Aruba and Curacao and st. Martin , islands like Barbados and other are not on walking distance from downtown. If you are going to Cozumel perhaps an advance reservation should be recommended. ask your travel agency to hand you information about the tours and usually you can find all these information back on-line.
Bon voyage!
