Somewhere exciting to take a 2 year old away for his birthday?
I have a 5 year old and my son is 2 on Sept 25th. We want to go somewhere good for the weekend. Not too expensive. Not Blackpool. We live in Manchester and don't have a car. Any suggestions?

I took my kids to Gullivers World in Warrington. It was a great day out, not too expensive and the rides are suitable for both ages. My youngest was two at the time and was able to go on most of the rides.
The also love Chester Zoo anytime of year.
Otherwise, try Butlins, Pwyhelli, sometimes they have good deals for weekends.
only for the weekend? if it is the summer holiday. u could take him to Thailand tour where they are a lot of water activities and outdoor ones. very nice in Thailand. the food are good too =]
Bultins at Skegness! You can catch the Train there. There's nightly entertainment for the kids (and adults wer'e all kids at heart) and your not too far away from Skeggy town centre.

Somewhere lovely like Devon or Cornwall might be a nice idea, it's not as "exciting" as Blackpool (but obviousl Blackpool seems to be the UK's Ibiza, so good call not to go there!) but you can make your own fun; or maybe a Centre Parks holiday where there are activities for the kids?
How about a dip in the canal? It`s cheap, he won`t know the difference and with your lack of imagination you will probably go back time and time again.
I reckon a kid of 2 would be happy anywhere with his parents, as long as they are paying attention to him and his brother both kids could have a happy time. How about Southport or New Brighton?

your kids are just right age it is fantastic, me and my friend took our boys at xmas a couple of years ago, unforgettable.. for us as well as the kids!!
take them to a neighboring park, pack a picnic lunch(kid friendly of course) .. include some bubbles to play with;ice cream for dessert and maybe a ride on a pony or merry go round.Gear the entertainment to their level..and keep it simple.

You can get the train direct to chester and then get a bus up to the Zoo
Its expensive but great.
Or, the blue planet in Ellesmere port, not sure how you get there by public transport.
Or, for free, Liverppol docks, kids love it. Maybe go across the ferry and back - it'll seem like a ship to him
I had a 2 year old and a 5 year old, I took them both to a place called 'orphanage' that was 40 years ago, they must like it , I left them there!! I must check up on them some time soon!
since your son is a two year old, his satisfaction or pleasures are also simple. anywhere would do as long as you have fun with him. enjoy!
We have been visiting the UK for 6 months with two children. The best value for money we have found is staying in static caravans, you will need to take your own linen or pay a little more to have it provided. It saves money because you can make all your own meals. It works with children because you have a place to rest and recharge - important at 2 years old! You may not have to travel too far to find a nice place. You will have to take the time to search on the internet for camping grounds with statics and then call around to see if one will hire you a static for the weekend it should be under £40 per night (this is where you do your work as they may not like to hire for just 1 or 2 nights). Search for campsites near you, on a train or bus ride away. They are ususally set near places of beauty, in countryside etc. The first thing that came to mind with a 2 year old is do your day in sections. 1 Their favourite breakfast. 2 A short walk to feed ducks, look at some sort of animals - so if you are in the country look at the cows or horses etc, you might be able to feed some through the fence. 3. Back for a rest and lunch, maybe 5 year old could help make some pancakes. 4. Out again to a playground 5. Back to rest, play with toys etc. 5. Dinner and a book and bed. I know it all sounds a bit idealistic but if it works most of the weekend it will be good. One of the cheapest and most fun toys I have made for my kids it homemade playdough - give it to them while it's still warm. You can make it with flour, salt, cream of tarter, oil and water and of course food colourings. Make the basics yellow, blue and red and they can blend them. Have fun.
