When is peak season exactly in regards to Cuban Train Timetables?

I am wanting to plan a trip there in january and wondering if the havana to santiago express is runing daily or every second day aronud this time?

Trains are not very reliable though in Cuba (even if they call it express!) - they are always early or extremely late. It is very safe to use any other transport ie. bus/coach or even hitch-hiking, thats how people mainly get about.
