How many people have been booted out of their train seat?
I was on a train from King's Cross to Peterborough. The place was crammed to the gills as usual, and there were 2 complete carriages full of pre-booked seats with their slips sticking up, mostly empty. The First Class carriages were pretty much empty. When the ticket inspector came round he chucked a load of people out of 1st Class because they refused (or couldn't afford) to pay the extra £60 he was asking for the upgrade (no wonder they're always empty! Talk about us and them!), he didn't seem too worried about the people sitting in the reserved seats, but then when he got to me, he booted me out of the seat I was in because I hadn't paid the full price for my ticket! There were people standing all over the place and luckily for me, I didn't have long to wait before I was getting off.
Has anyone else had an embarrassing experience like that?

Yes I was 8 months pregnant and in my last week at work used to travel from leicester home and the 5.35pm train had a habit of not turning up so you had all the people waiting for that train and the people waiting for the next one at 6.30pm. They never thought of putting more carriages on and there was only ever two. There were no seats and it was packed, my bump was getting elbowed and I was getting mad. One bloke who was standing took pity and lifted me up on to the luggage rack which was empty about 3 feet high off ground so i was out the way and Isat down. Ticket bloke insisted i get down even when I explained why i was sat there. I had to or i literally would have punched someone!! Not one person offered to give their seat for me!!
I got booted out of someone elses seat, by them.
ask when you buy your ticket, if this includes a seat.. let the ticket master know you were left standing last time.. and maybe they will give you a discount : )
I always thought that when you bought a ticket for a train or a bus that you were buying the right to travel on that transport in comfort & seated. But like you I have used trains loads of times & spent most of the time standing though having paid the same price as those lucky enough to get a seat. On the rare occassions that I have had a seat I usually have someones baggage or worse resting in my face or on my shoulder..so not sure which is worse!
