Where would you reccomend to live in Yorkshire?
Somewhere rural (we have horse,dogs etc) near schools and beautiful countryside?? ( not to far from town/city so we can work)

Easy. Ripon, N. Yorks is known as the "Gateway to the Dales", has good access to A1, one of the lowest crime rates in the country, and has the history that its near neighbour, Harrogate, lacks. Ripon was the originator of the current mayoral system, dating back to the 12th century, when a "night-watchman" was appointed to protect the city between 9.00 pm and 9.00 am, and bear responsibility for any theft or crime committed during that time. A levy was collected from all businesses to pay for this service, ( the fore-runner of the rates system), but that could easily be swallowed up in paying compensation for thefts. The incumbent "night-watchman" could make very good money if he prevented crime, but could also lose a lot of money if he failed. The job was so unpopular that, to this day, when a new mayor is voted in, he runs away and hides, and the town councillors have to find him before he can take office. We also still have the horn that was blown at 9.00pm to signify the "night-watchman"s shift, and it is still blown every night at 9.00pm

well, I've lived in Kingston Upon Hull, all my life, so I wouldn't recommend it lol. Little Weighton is a nice little village, so is Flamborough (I've stayed at both places and they are very nice and quiet). Hope that helps

I lived in Morley for 38 years before moving to Spain. I has countryside and not far from the own centre.
Sheffield. Best place ever. good Indian restuarnts too if you like that sort of thing.
Anywhere along the M62 corridor
Would recommend one of the villages in the Harrogate / Leeds / York triangle. Nice area, well located near places to work but pricey.
Anywhere in Yorkshire is best though.
Whitby is lovely and the North York Moors (Heartbeat country) is stunning. Nearest city is Middlesbrough.

This is just up my street as i come from north Yorkshire,a town called Thirsk,with beautiful countryside,it's a riding countryside so plenty of room for all your animals,The city of York is about 20 miles away,and what a wonderful place it is,so full of history and museums,i highly recommend this area,Thirsk is also where the famous James Herriot had his veterinary surgery,which is now a museum,please i urge you to check this out,if you do please pay a visit to a little village called Kilburn,it has a white horse carved out on the hill side,also famous for it's carpentry and the church mouse that is carved in to all the work done,i promise you that will regret it if you don't check out this wonderful place,and all it has to offer for miles around it,i wish you good luck

Look at Harrogate North Yorkshire. Won channel 4's third best place to live in the country on Location Location Location. 20 mins from Leeds/York. Direct train to Kings Cross & perfect for people who like country side 10 minutes you are on the moors on in the dales. www.harrogate.gov.uk
Doncaster has all the things you need. Plenty of green areas for small holdngs, Schools in every village , mainly primary, but senior schools have buses, if need to travel.
I'd highly recommend Sheffield. It's a brilliant, lively city, with the Pennines right on its doorstep. There are some beautiful little rural villages in the suburbs and plenty of good schools. There are also a lot of good stables and horse riding facilities arround!
Nottinghamshire. Yorkshire folk think the rest of Britain respects their "straight talking" but they are wrong, they are the most ignorant people I have ever met and that includes the French.
look at the villages between Harrogate and York. i.e Boston Spa, Wetherby etc etc. There's countryside but you'll be near major towns for shopping.
There are several nice quiet villages between Sheffield and Barnsley. Near countryside, close to the M1 too.
Harrogate and its surrounding villages are lovely but pricey. Visit and see where you like the look of.
The Yorkshire Wolds (Pocklington, Beverley, Market Weighton) are also nice but harder to commute from/to.
