If liquids etc are such a danger then why were they not banned before the last terrorist threat?
if they are so dangerous [ still banned on American flights] then why were the intelligence services/airlines not thinking ahead? personally think it's more about looking like they are doing something,anything to increase public confidence

Dont think the tech guys are on a holiday , they are well aware of all the possiblties but they dont want the public to get panic abt various chance of bombs . Then U will keep on monitering eachother face to face then by slip he /she might tip the cops abt ur alertness.
Then a big mess U know that how much nationl waste of time as u prove them ur not related to any suspected.
Becuase whatever they prepare for, terrorists will find another way. They're not stupid.
Liquids in and of themselves are not the danger. There was some evidence of a threat where liquid explosives were going to be smuggled on board which can be done quite easily if they are disguised as a normally safe liquid. The ban is to make it harder to smuggle liquid explosives on board since they do not yet have the technology in place to determine a dangerous liquid from a benign one.
Because the main idea isn´t to keep people safe, the main idea is to make people BELIEVE they´re safe. And that´s so with everything. Plane crashes, train accidents, building mistakes etc. always afterwards a group of experts find out what went wrong, of course no one mentions that they actually tested the damn thing on real people, they just call it mistake. And of course everything is repaired/ reworked until the next victims....
It sounds like one of the 1984 style government scams to keep us thinking of the "War on Terror". So once in a while they cry wolf to make us think they are keeping us safe. Safe from terror that they instigated. And the usual shopkeepers are rounded up and thrown in jail for taking tube maps around in their bags. Enjoy!
