Tenerife For Christmas?

Has anyone been? We're thinking of getting away from it all this year. Is it still busy over the Christmas period? I hear it is sunny all year round - is this the whole truth?
Cheers

I used to live there and still go out at different times of the year. It is fairly busy but not overcrowded. Christmas is a much tamer affair and its set at a totally different pace. The Spanish don't celebrate the 25th like we do. Families get together on Christmas Eve for a late dinner (about 10pm) and eat, drink & talk. At midnight if there are kids around they stage the whole "I can see Father Christmas" malarky and everyone gets a small present from "Santa", you don't write your own name on the gift tag. Then on the 6th of january they celebrate "Los Reys" which means the coming of the Kings and then they exchange bigger gifts with their nearest and dearest.

I have had some of the best christmas's of my life out there and at New Year they really go for it. Usually everyone dresses up in their finest to see the new year in and there are fiestas all night.

The weather can be changeable but warm and sunny most of the time.

It beats the 3 month long charade we have to suffer here with all the Christmas nonsense hands down. I was out last year for Christmas and it was the best one ever. Wish I could go this year but I have to work. Bummer.

I would definately recommend it, you will have an amazing time. Go to Los Gigantes in Santiago del Teide (south west) for a real intimate christmas and get to know the locals. There is a fantastic shop there across from the Hotel called "Klusters". The staff are amazing, you can find everything you could want as gifts. There are clothes, sunglasses, shoes (men and women) and they will wrap it all up beautifully for you.

Have a great time if you decide to go (and rent a car to see the whole island properly!)
It is cooler you might not get too many chances to sun bathe but hey it'll be warmer than here and its good fun. New Year is supposed to be cool as well
I prefer turkey or even goose, tenerife sounds chewy!
Tenerife will be lovely and warm. You may need a light jacket for the evenings though. Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands still filled with Brits over Xmas. The other is Lanzarote. Gran Canaria is full of people from Sweden, Denmark, Norway etc at this time of year.
If you go please bear this in mind.

On Xmas Day, after your party/meal. there is NOTHING to do.

Only foreign telly. nowhere to go to eat or drink. everything is shut..

When you are at home you can pop to the kitchen for more food and drink. but not if you are away..This really is the biggest downside.
my mate has taken his family 3 out of the last 4 years he says its great i went in the summer wasnt that impressed but i dont know about xmas new year it is nice out there and you can wear shorts so he reckons not cheap any more though as every one seems to go that time of the year cost him a pretty penny i know went to cyprus last dec was brill going again this year but thats the beggining of dec got a small grandson so rather stay home for xmas
The only prob is that it's Tenerife. I'm going to Egypt for crimbo should be the same temp. A little bit more classy for not much more. All inclusive 500 quid
I have visited Tenerife twice before, and i Love the place. Yes it is sunny all year round, a couple of years ago we went for Christmas and had a fantastic time. It is much quieter, but enjoyable too.
Tip: Don't be put of by the black sand!!
Very unusual but we got used to it.
We stayed at Playa las Americas, if you want it even more relaxing, then Los Christianos is the place to stay.
Nice wether I've lived in Tenerife for 18 years. There are lots of things to do and see, don't miss Almaciga beach in the north.
its warm and very chilled out
its horrible like southend on sea just forget it
