I'm bringing my wife to Cardiff for her 30th birthday, what does anybody recommend?
We enjoy pretty much anything. I want to make it the best birthday ever as it's on the 23rd December and she has never really celebrated it properly because of Christmas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Cardiff Who exhibition. I went to the Blackpool Doctor Who museum for my 26th birthday last week and it was great.
If she does not like Doctor Who (I hear there are a few mad people who don't) then I would reccomend seeing the Welsh national orchestra who often play in Cardiff.

my partner did this for me for our anniversary. it was absolutely fantastic.your wife will love it..you can choose your own area.we stayed by a beautiful lake with trees surrounding us.the scenery was awesome, it was very secluded and very romantic.. think she will love it
Shopping . Cardiff Castle and if u go to Cardiff bay there are some wicked bars and restaurants u can go to also theres the water bus . i luv Cardiff !!

Go over to the winter wonderland by the museum, its got outside ice rink, fun fair, etc.

As you will expect, Cardiff city centre will be jam packed with people desparately buying last minute Christmas presents. It is normally quite a nice shopping city, with lots of interesting shops in the Victorian/Edwardian arcades. A good place to be if its raining!
As some people have mentioned, there is a large open air Ice Rink in Cardiff every Christmas. It is in a spendid location next to the city's City hall and Civic Buildings. A good place to be if the weather's coldish.

There are plenty of good places for food. You could have lunch in the pleasant Welsh food 'Celtic Cauldron' opposite the Castle. If you are heading to Cardiff Bay I would highly recommend the Dim Sum Bar, which is great fun and reasonably priced. Lots of cosy corners too and turns into a sort of nightclub late in the evening. Make sure you buy her one of the special dishes served in a pineapple!

I 'am from the United States, my husband is Welsh, so I lived in the United Kingdom for almost 5 years. But we lived in The Royal Forest of Dean in England. On the border of Wales and England. It was only about 35-40 minutes drive from the Wales Capital. I really enjoyed Going to Cardiff, in fact I liked it better then London. The Welsh people are nicer, the City Centre is cleaner and not as congested. For a wonderful romantic meal, I would recommend this restaurant called Topo Gigio on the west of the city centre. The famous celebrities eat there, because there photo's are on the wall with there autograph. When you first walk in the place you can see it is fine Italian cuisine. And the food is Simply Davine, the lady in your life will appreciate your efforts to go all out with this wonderful romantic place. I know when I went there for there first time, I was very pleased with everything about the date.
As a 30-year old who lives in Cardiff, this is what I would want my husband to do:
Stay in either the Hilton (right in the city centre) or the St Davids Hotel (in Cardiff Bay, overlooking the water). Both are very nice 5star hotels.
During the day, go shopping around the victorian arcades. There are some cracking individual boutiques. There are also all the major high street shops in the St Davids Centre and Queen Street. The locals all shop in Howells - our nicest department store - go there and buy her a mulberry handbag or some posh make-up.
Go and visit Cardiff Castle - it looks great from the outside but it is gorgeous inside. The mad marquis of Bute spent the proceeds of the welsh coal fields on rebuilding the Norman original with a hand-painted nursery, a gold-plated smoking room and a variety of pretty turrets and towers. Its one of Britain's best 'arts and crafts' movement buildings. (ps - if you are a cheapskate, you can get into Bute Park - the gardens behind the castle - for free, and that's where you'll get the best view of the towers).
As it is Christmas, I totally agree with the person who said go to the Winter Wonderland - outdoor ice-rink and mulled wine outside City Hall. Its very pretty and romantic.
In the evening, go to the Wales Millennium Centre to see a show - for Christmas I believe they have 'swan lake on ice'. Its a magnificent building right on the waterfront in the bay. Whilst you're down there, eat out in one of the restaurants around the waterfront. There are a bunch of chain restaurants and bars, one very good chinese (directly opposite the WMC) and a couple of posher restaurants. The downstairs bar in the WMC also has some very nice champagne and there is a posh restaurant in there too.
Have a fantastic time - this is a lovely and lively city so I'm sure she'll love it. I only feel sorry for the poor people who haven't yet discovered how wonderful it is.
