Does any one have any suggestions for a first time visitor to the United Kingdom?
I'm an English literature major and am currently residing in the US. I plan to visit the UK in a year or so, but have yet to decide where to go. Are there any places that are especially friendly with novice travelers? Is the general feeling toward Mexicans amiable? Excuse my bluntness, but I've had some trouble in the US because of my nationality.
Answers:
99% of people here will welcome you in any town or city with open arms, be happy to help you in any way we can and sincerely hope you enjoy it here and go home with a good impression of us regardless of your nationality.
Look forward to it - you'll love it - well, except maybe the weather.
stay where you are
If you want a lot in a small area geared for tourism then visit London, but if you want a really historic and friendly experiance then visit Chester, first stop the visitor centre across the road from a Roman Amphitheatre.
Being Mexican wouldn't be a problem in the UK most people would think you were Spanish anyway.
Generally most of the UK is OK for visitors
stay home we don't want nasty horrible people like you here
go to London it is the racial melting pot . soo many races, so many faces and a great city with lots of things to do... its great!! I live here and there is no prejudice against mexican people not even a stereotype, we have no borders with u unlike america.
Seriously london is great i have friends from lots of different nationalities.
My sister in law is Mexican. I'm from the UK and there's no prejudice here so don't worry. Check out www.gumtree.com to find some Mexican communities here in the UK so you know somewhere to feel more at home when you come over.
London is very expensive but it's a place to visit to say you've been but I wouldn't plan on living there. You can visit Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle etc. Have a look at a map and take your pic.
Forget london - they're all miserable t o s s e r s - the North of England is better.
If your mexican i suggest you shave off the moustache, lose the big hat and dont say AREEBA AREEBA whilst you're in the UK
Depends how long you are going to stay. I would concentrate on London for a short break of a few days, but in a few weeks you can cover most of the UK - it's not that big! There are many tourist informaton centres in all parts of the UK and I would imagine all are listed on numerous websites so I won't list them here.
Anyone is welcome in UK, I know of no particular animosity towards Mexico. I hope you enjoy your visit!
Visit Stonehenge. See the sights in London. If you go to Ireland, don't sleep outside near the mounds!
Who said 'A Mexican who is tired of London is tired of life ' ? !!
All the UK is great - hence Great Britain. London is good. In the West end you will be in your element as most people on the street will be visitors too. I've been here 59 years and still cant get enough of it. But visit other towns too. Other respondents will advise you of their favourite places. Enjoy your trip. We look forward to welcoming you.
There are no anti Mexican issues in the UK. London is an extrely cosmopolitan place and you will hear hundreds of different languages dont worry about it one bit
London is a huge place and there is so much to do I wouldnt know where to start, what are you interested in seeing etc.. etc..
If there was one guidebook I would reccomend it would be the Lonely Planet. I have never found their advice or assessments wrong
have a nice trip
Noone has any problem with Mexicans in the UK!!
The reason I think Americans get funny about Mexicans is because they have a large amount of Mexican immgrants, but we don't have any over here so we have no reason to have a problem with them!
Some Brits are't too keen on Americans though so if you have an American accent you might have to explain that you're Mexican not a Yank!
I live in the U.K. and can't think of anyone I know for whom your nationality would be a problem!I'm not saying everyone is totally tolerant, but it would be much, much less of a problem for you than in the U.S! If you are an english lit major you should go to Strafford Upon Avon, birthplace of Shakespeare! Also Haworth Parsonage, home of the Bronte Sisters,in Keighley,West Yorkshire. Enjoy your trip!
Three years ago I met a couple from the USA on the last day of a 2 week visit to England, they had spent the whole 2 weeks in London. This was beyond me I only visit the money grabbing tourist trap if I really have to. There is a lot more to see in this great country of ours than crafty Cockneys and Eastern Euopeans with their hand in yer bag. So leave London, go to the North West of Scotland, Wales or over to Norfolk but please please do not go to LONDON, you will not see the real UK.
dont think you'll have any problems being mexican, cant understand why you want to visit though the place is a dump.
if you want to go somewhere decent try pembrokeshire west wales, lake district, and ive never been but parts of scotland are meant to be stunning.
Im sorry there are still people who behave like that, but I guess you find bigots in every walk of life- all you can do is ignore them and hope they grow up some time soon. If you come to the UK, dont just stick to London; see the palace and rubberneck at the crown jewels by all means, but try looking at Wales, and Ireland, and visiting Scotland with its wonderful wild scenery. Coach trips from the capital are available daily, and the coaches are clean and serve coffee etc. Dont use the trains because they are dirty, dont run on time and you need a mortgage to buy a ticket, and theres never any toilet paper! Enjoy your holidy, and please dont judge us all by the frw unpleasant people you might find; we are quite nice, really! Have FUN! Bring a camera!!
You would be welcomed here without any problem. If you do visit then try not to spend all of your time in London. There are so many places to see outside of London too. You will understand British culture far better if you look outside of the Capital. If you get the chance to visit Scotland do so, the people are wonderful and the scenery is breathtaking (and I am English). There are of course many things to see and do in London as well but don't concentrate solely on that. If you want any further assistance i will try to help you.
any where in the UK would welcome you I'm sure. come to SCOTLAND you'll be made very welcome and probably fall in love with the country as most tourists to our bonnie country do. good luck any way where ever in the UK you choose to go.
I definately don't have a problem with 20 yr old mexican ladies.the more the merrier. Especially novice travellers who need a helping hand ;-)
