I am thinking of moving from the uk to portugal, is the tax higher ?
also i understand i can import a car free of duty if its been registered in my name for 6 months and i become a resident,(do i have to ?)(which is hard because im a car dealer and dont register cars in my name ) but ive read that its not worth the hassle of going through the beaurocracy to register it is this true ?

You'll spend a fortune registering your car, and the bureaucracy will go on and on. You could buy one here but new cars are pricey (all imported). Some taxes are less, but some (eg VAT, 21%) higher, although the cost of living is lower than in the UK generally. If you're an EU citizen you have to register as a resident if you intend to stay for more than 6 months, and you will need the resident's card if you want to go through the bureaucracy involved in registering or buying a car. If you do anything illegally, you might regret it, because the police set up stops quite regularly (all around Lisbon anyway) and ask for your papers.
In Portugal they drive on the other side of the road - life would be easier to just buy a car there as it would make driving there less difficult and you avoid the whole tax issues.
yes.risk is high
Tax is lower than in the UK, BUY A CAR THERE IT'S EASIER.!
car tax is cheaper in Portugal than the UK. Registration is required, but that can take months, the best thing is to apply fro registration right at the beginning, as bureaucracy can take that long and longer.
i hope cheaper tax is not the only reason why you want to move to portugal ..
if it is. you'll regret it.
