I am in the process of changing my name and obviously will need to change my passport,?
will this cause me problems when travelling to the USA next month, my friend says they may find it strange as they are on high terror alert watch ?

Martin, the main problem you may find, is that you don't get your passport back in time to go.
As long as you have the name-change documentation, (deed poll certificate) along with your passport and your reason for changing your name is legitimate, there should be no problem with US customs, people change their names all the time for many reasons.
This will definitely cause problems for you! Especially now. Unless your passport isn't going to be valid anymore when you travel next month, is there a reason why you can't continue to use it until the whole name change thing happens on all your records? You'll never get a new passport with your name change in time unless you pay expediting charges.

If you have booked your ticket in one name and changing your name to another, they will not allow you on any planes anywhere in the world, the names have to tally completely
