China / Trade Fair Help?
Please help. It has been a long standing ambition to attend the Canton Tade Fair. I am planning to attend with a friend this October - but do not know where to start to get on board. I found the canton website http://www.cantonfair.org.cn/ to be unhelpful for inexperienced users/attendees. Please help on the followimg:
1) Where is a budget place to stay? We are looking for no frills, but close by. What kind of prices should we expect to pay? Where/how could we go about securing bookings?
2) Where / how can we book travel from Shanghai to Guangzhou? How much should we expect to pay?
3) We do not represent any organisations - we just want to tour the fair. How can we go about getting in? It seems that for established businesses it is easier
4) Can we get Visa's at the airport - or do they have to be done here, in the UK?
5) Is it worh using a local company to arrange?
Answers:
1. It is very easy and simple thing to go to Canton Fair, if you have no patience with the Canton Fair website, you can just go there and register on site. You don't need to be an established business to go there, anybody except Chinese nationality can go in without pre-registration.
2. You need to do some research on the flights, domestic flights in China and hotel price, check www.9588.com, I find their domestic flights and hotel price is unbeatable, but still hunting around.
3. You can't get the visa at the airport, you have to get a visa before you go. For Chinese Visa information, you can contact: MDX Chinese School - a small family business in London providing information and friendly service on Chinese Language and Travelling to China. http://www.mdxchineseschool.co.uk. You can post your application to them by recorded delivery if you are not in London. By paying a small service charge, you will surely get the right visa in 1-3 days and also helpful handy-tips about canton fair and your trip.
4. All you need to think is your trading name, what you are interested to buy, Canton Fair has a very sophisticated services in the exhibition centers including instant printing of business cards for a very small fee, foreign currency exchange, Internet lounge, so don't worry about anything, just go and explore.

try looking on the sites for flight to china, like China Eastern, Air china,or any flights from your airport to china and choose the cheapest. Virgin Atlantic go to China
There's a very comprehensive web site at www.chinatravel.com, though I don't know if it has details of the trade fair.
Some of the travel agencies offer a visa service for an extra fee.
They'll check your documentation for you and submit it to the Chinese Embassy. Alternatively I think you'd have to visit the Embassy yourself. They'll probably ask you for your planned itinerary.

Best of luck. Have a good trip.
you can't get a visa at the airport anymore. you have to get a visa in your home country.
if you're trying to make hotel reservations I'd work on that asap. I hear the hotels are booked out during the Canton Fair. I have seen some info on Craigslist re places to stay in GZ. That's just another resource you could try.
1. I can recommend Asiarooms.com for hotels. Normally you can get a good room for about £40 a night , of course you will be paying more during the fair season.
4. You must get a visa first in this country. A travel agent will do it for you for a fee. My boyfriend uses one in Chinatown , London. This is the quickest way (max of 5 day) . You need passport , photo and you need to fill in a simple form.
2. Opodo or Expedia.co.uk do internal China flights on the web. From Shanghai to G'zhou is about 2 hours. Prices vary as usual ! Hong Kong is nearer.
Take a gas mask . Guangzhou is very polluted !
easy. get a visa and ask ur travel agent to book u a hotel. u can get registered in the fair ground. A travel visa will suffice. no need for pre-registration of sort. do it simple and u get there fine. when booking a hotel, those nearest the fair ground will be much more expensive. so u can try to ask ur travel agent to get u a 3 star hotel that is not too far, but also not too near the area. Hotels during this period would likely be much more expensive. so prepare a budget. its always 100-150% higher than normal. But yes, its worth attending the canton fair if u have a business goal in mind.
