its my husbands birthday on new years eve & i would love to do something nice for him, anyone know of a quiet ( no mad loud parties!) different, relaxed idea? we are willing to travel but not too far as long as its not too expensive.l

How about taking the ferry over to north wales for a change of scene? You could get a cheap sailing if you book in advance and snuggle up in a lovely hotel or guest house, just the two of you .Some put on entertainment on New years' Eve , some don't , see what suits you.
