Try around 51st and 3rd. There aren't many around the area but the ones that are there are very good. There is a choice of cuisine - Italian, Indian, Thai and some more I have forgotten.

Daniels (upper east side) is very pricey French cuisine but soooo delicious.
Nobu Nextdoor (tribeca) is moderate to expensive Japanese food.
Chow Bar (W. 4th St) is great moderately priced southeastern asian cuisine.
Gray's Papaya for a great cheap hot dog.
