Anyone know a nice hotel in Bangkok?
I'm spending a week there in December. Don't seek very expensive 5-star but would like a 4-star medium-priced recommendation from someone who's stayed there recently. Near river, if possible, fairly central, and not more than $100 per night? Recommendation much appreciated!

there is no such thing they are all filthy
When I was there I stayed in the Hotel Asia, it was great, had two swimming pools. Remember everything is cheaper in Thailand I don't think you could spend $100 if you tried! It is 4 star too..
Marriott Royal Garden Riverside, Rooms overlook the river, so does the dining room which has an excellent breakfast buffet. The pool is very large and positioned by the river with a jetty to the complementary river taxi which will take you to the heart of Bangkok for free.
nothing is expensive in Bangkok, but it is a sleazy dirty polluted rat infested cesspool . have fun anyway I did
We stayed at the Holiday Inn, Silom. Can't remember if it was 4 or 5 star. Very nice, all facilities. Fairly short walk to river bus, shops, night market and the overhead railway.

How can he know all hotels are filthy? Did he stay in them all?
I think bill was just another angry, frustrated and socially-dysfunctional sex tourist looking for his his last chance at love before dying old and alone.
I am a resident of Bangkok. There are many lovely hotels that offer great rooms and service in your price range.
May I suggest Royal Princess Larn Luang Hotel Bangkok?
It is near the Thai Tourism Authority Office and convenient to all points of interest.

This will give you a feel of how cheap BKK rooms are. Bangkok is hot and noisy so take the advice of the girl who lives there , but if you want the atmosphere go a bit downmarket and do some web research before you go.

Don't even think of spending a hundred dollars a night. Stay at Malaysia Hotel off Rama 4. It's clean, safe, has a pool, a 24 hour coffee shop and a good location near Lumpini Park, the largest park in Bangkok. A taxi anywhere is about a dollar. Great, friendly desk staff.
Use your money to go shopping. The new Night Market is just around the corner.
I am going this week land plan to stay for 2-3 months. I have a condo but use to always stay at Malaysia Hotel. I have several friends there right now. Look it up on line and check it out., It's only about 12-14 dollars a night and has everything you need and want in a decent place to stay.
Stay by The Cha Pra River, the main river that runs through Bangkok, they have many top class hotels there. For 100 US a night you can afford 5 star no problem. The hotels are the best in the world, you won,t find anything for the same price, unless you go to the Phillipense. About the only two countries in the world were you get more than the value for your money.
There are literally hundreds of great hotels to choose from. Go take a look at www.asiarooms.com, great deals. I visited Thailand 65 times before moving here to Bangkok 6 years ago. Hotels here are in general cheap, clean and with great service - certainly much more than you would expect in Europe/USA. Sure there are some grubby places just like there are everythwere else, but in general a very good standard
