I am thinking about going to Oslo for 4 days over Christmas. Will there be lots to do? Are shops open?

I want a traditional Christmas - great food, snow etc. Any suggestions of what to do do greatly apprecaited!

NO!NO!NO!
there'll be nothing to do,shops will be closed and you won't see anyone BECAUSE they will all be over HERE for XMAS.
Oslo is really lovely and well worth the visit. But it is VERY expensive once you get there, even a pizza is shockingly expensive - think we paid something like £25 for a cheese pizza at Dolly Dimples!

The folk museum was quite interesting, also the viking ship museum which you get to by taking a ferry across to the island. And the park in the middle of town is really nice and peaceful with interesting architecture.

We went for 3 days and that was about enough time to see everything we wanted to see, and take a trip up the fjord.
Hi! Oslo is a tourist city in the Summer. In the winter, there are things to do, but I don't think you will get a very traditional Christmas the days of Christmas. Most of the Christmas events happen during the weeks leading up to Christmas. Norwegians so value family time that no one would want to be out making meals and putting on fancy Christmas shows for tourists. They value family time much more than extra overtime pay. (I married a Norwegian and I just recently learned this! hehe)

Most people who travel to Norway in the winter come to go skiing. The snow should be beautiful and the ski jump Holmenkollen would be a great place to visit.

I have checked out the Oslo website and it looks like there is a Christmas buffet and Christmas concerts in the days before Christmas. It may be that there will be enough Christmas activities for you! Check this out, just type in the dates: http://www.visitoslo.com/whats-on.49107..

Have fun! Norway is a beautiful place!
