All New Yorkers, where is good to go New Years, I'm English and staying for a few days, maybe a nice club?
Don't want anywhere to heavy like trance just somewhere you can have a good dance that plays good music. Do you need tickets to get into the clubs on New Years Eve?? I'm staying in the Financial District at the Millenium Hilton?? I would like to see the Ball drop in times square but I hear you have to hang around all day. So I could watch it from a little way away and then off to a club I'm flying back the next day, so need to be able to get back to the hotel without too much hassle, not sure what the transport is like on New Years?? Help loads of questions and no answers!

Hi I went 2 years ago, stayed at a hotel close to times square and just walked back an forth, as you are not allowed to drink in the street. It was fab, saw all the live shows and had a drink.
I do not know any clubs specifically, but most of the popular clubs in New York City of course will have New Years' Eve parties, but the cost will be very expensive on that night. Many request you buy/reserve early as well. There are several clubs in the Times Square Area that probably will be having parties. (40-40 club, clubs in Rockefeller Center, Webster's Hall in Greenwich Village)
There may be a party in your Hotel, you should check. If you plan to watch the ball drop, you really have to be in the Times Square Area as you really cannot see it from a distance as there are nothing but tall buildings in the area to obstruct your view. If you see the ball drop in Times Square, there is usually extra subway service afterwards, and it is safe (plenty of police), but keep in mind that it will be very crowded traveling with 1 million of your fellow revelers and autos will be restricted in the entire area.
