Where in the World is MPA (Mount Pleasant Airport)?
Answers:
I know of 2 airports named Mount Pleasant Airport. One international airport using the code MPN is in the Falkland Islands. The second, a former 2nd world war training airport, is located on Prince Edward Island, Canada. It is only used by pleasure aircraft today.
From Wikipedia:
Using the IATA airport code MPN, RAF Mount Pleasant also acts as the Falkland Islands' only international airport, along with its military role. Flights open to civilian passengers are operated six times each month by the Royal Air Force to and from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom with a refuelling stop at RAF Ascension Island in the south-central Atlantic Ocean. RAF flights are on TriStar aircraft, although it is common for charter aircraft from Air Luxor to be used if the TriStars are required for operational flights.
Additionally, every Saturday LAN Airlines operates scheduled commercial flights to the city of Punta Arenas in southern Chile stopping at Río Gallegos, Argentina once a month.
Stanley, Falkland Islands
I think it's in the Falkland Islands.
Falkland Islands. It is on East Falkland Island.
The Falkland Islands - not in Stanley though!
Falkland Islands
Mount Pleasant Airport is in the Falklands.Built in the aftermath of the 1982 conflict it takes 2 flights a week ferrying forces & civilian personnel between the UK and the islands. It is also the main military base on the islands for some 2000 people.
Mount Pleasant is the Falkland Is Airport, as everybody says. Its code is MPN (not MPA).
It's served by two international flights - from Brize Norton by the RAF, and once a week (Saturday) from Punta Arenas in Chile by LAN Chile.
Yes they are right. Steven are you sure the flight is from Brize Norton, and not Lynham?
