Are there bars in Egypt or is it illegal to drink, unless you are in a hotel bar?

As it is a predominantly muslim country i would guess you will find it hard to drink legally there, although there are tourist areas and as you say hotels and such that will allow it.
there are bars and liquor shops everywhere so if you are going to egypt and you drink you won't really have a problem.
I never had a problem with that in Egypt.
yes there are other than hotels. you will not have any problems finding one.
there are bars but be warned some are unfriendly to tourists
although is a muslim country you can find places where they serve wine with ur dinner/lunch, not only hotels
There are some bars other than hotels, they are usually a bit discreet so the best thing is to ask at your hotel. There are also restaurants that serve alcohol with your meal. For the bars you might have to take your passport since Egyptians are not allowed in some and Muslims are not allowed in any of them from what I understand. The best thing to do is ask other tourists or a guide and they can tell you.
There are bars in Hotels, and than you have your regular pubs and bars. In rich neighborhoods for rich people and poor neighborhoods (called Khmara) for poor people. Alos, than are cabarets. It is not illegal to serve alchool aslong as they have a permit
Egypt is soo open country, it is actually not allowed in ur religion to drink but cause Egypt have soo many tourist come visit here so it is not that diffcult to find places around to have what ever the drinks away from the hotel. as example in Luxor where i live there are about 7 bars in the time Luxor is consider small city compair with other cites here around.
if u would like to ask about anything extra just goahead at any moment
