What is a "bete noire?"?

Answers:
Literally translated from French it means 'black beast'. The dictionary definition is 'a person or thing that one particularly dislikes or dreads'.
It has three uses in all.
1. A pet peeve (or pet hate) is a minor annoyance that can instill extreme frustration in an individual. Typically each person has several pet peeves that aggravate him more than the average person. Another person may not react as negatively or at all to the same circumstance. So someone might say that people not saying thank you when you have helped them is their particular 'bete noir'.
2. A kind of flourless chocolate cake.
3. A song by Bryan Ferry.

It is French , the direct translation is " black bug " but it is usually used to to express a bad thing , like the black sheep of the family
bete noir. literally, means black beast.

What it means is someone or something that has repeated negative connotations for you. Usually it refers to a person.

It might be the person who always beats you, be it in a sporting competition or just at work. They are always ahead of you, chosen above you. You would call them your bete noir. Alternatively its the person who always catches you out.

Examples:

I am sure Michael Schumacher is the bete noir of several people especially Fernando Alonso.

For inspector Clouseau it was the pink panther

For Napoleon Bonaparte it would have been the Duke of Wellington.

For Sylvester - tweety bird.

For coyote - its road runner
bete noire is french i think, and it means stupid black, why do you ask this question?
its maybe a person who is dangerous to someone or the black beast of someone
