What is Air Madrid like as an airline?

Think it twice.
I don't know about intra European flights, but on long haul flights they are terrible. Delays, problems with airplanes, they use leased airplanes and crew from other airlines ( like EuroAtlantic 767).

They have the safest record of any Spanish airline. Only 18 crashes and 416 deaths for them last year.
Happy flying.
I've never heard of them (& incidentally it's not that i'm not knowlegeable i work in an airport & live underneath the flight path) but as it's such a short jump from london-madrid,i wouldn't worry too much about what they are like, you'll be in madrid before you have time to worry.
I would stay away from them unless you have ample time to travel between London and Madrid. My partner and I flew them from London. The trip there was fine. It was basically on time but the ticket published the wrong terminal at Gatwick so we almost missed the flight. The ticket said that the flight left the north terminal. We arrived in the north terminal and NO-ONE had even heard of them. Finally, we found out that in fact they were flying from the south terminal. We got there in the nick of time.
The flight back was a mess. We arrived at the Madrid airport with 2 hours to spare. We checked in which went well. That was the last time we spoke to an employee from Air Madrid. The flight was first announced on the screens that it was leaving 1 hour late i.e. 12:30pm vs. 11:30. That was ok. Then 12:30 came and went . no one was at the gate and it was 30 minutes before more information was posted on the screen. It was delayed until 2pm. Now this is 2.5 hours late. Still we can't find anyone who worked at Air Madrid. I tried calling the phone number on my ticket - it didn't work.
Then 2:30 approached - no one at desk. No announcements. Finally it said the flight was leaving at 3:15 (approximately). Still no one at the desk. It was a mess. It was like the airline didn't exist and no one worked there. Finally around 4pm (now 4.5 hours late) with no real communication someone came to the desk. It turned out we were goign to be flown via Orion Air. Who were they? I don't know . did we ever see anyone from Air Madrid - NOOOOOOO. The flight finally took off at 4.45pm.
Delays happen, but this seemed intentional. The communication was terrible. We had no way of reaching an employee from Air Madrid. I felt like they were going bankrupt before my eyes. I will never ever ever fly Air Madrid again. You may save a few pounds but it isn't worth it. Stay away
