If you have a degree consider applying for the JET programme. This is a teching job organised by the japanese education department, and people are recruited at japanese embassies and consulates around the english speaking world. This is actually an extremely simplistic description of the programme, contact the embassy in you home country.

Get moving, application usually close mid december for work starting in August.
Language teacher..English?.
Daves ESL cafe is a great place to look for jobs
Unless you want to teach English, you're not looking at a brilliant job market.
To teach English, you have to have at least a university degree. Check out the link about Dave's ESL cafe.

unless you have connections or something lined up you are looking at just teaching english. sure nothing wrong with that, but if you want to do something different it may be almost impossible. Ive had (gaijin) friends work at conbini Sanks and stuff, but they are fluent. but all the best, but its not like Australia or America where you have your 'overseas dream' and just enter the counrty on a work permit and start the search for a job, its a little different. but good luck
As an alternative to teaching English (for which you need a university degree - which I guess you do not have, otherwise you would not be asking this question), there is a good living to be made from being toastmaster at Japanese weddings. A typical Japanese wedding costs $100,000-$250,000. They spare little expense and like 'Western' traditions.

It will take a bit of initiative to get started. Over to you.
