this is something which is easily sorted out when you are actually there - in the mean time use an Internet cafe for the first day or two.

Remember to check the mains adaptor voltage for your PC, and the warranty coverage too.
India suckssssssssssssss
Yes, you will be able to get wi fi there.

depending on where you are, surely in the city but if you are in the countryside I doubt it.

India is quite up to date hense all the businesses in England have their call centres and help desks there.
if you go to any electronics store you can buy a thing that lets you access the internet any where from your computer. it give you internet access where ever you go.
everything in india is dirt cheap.take your pick!
last time i checked, cell phone technology had really taken off in india..maybe a mobile internet card could work like something similar to cingular.
remember that india doesnt use archaic CDMA technology like verizon does. A gsm internet card could be ur best bet (similar to what cingular might offer. ask cingular if they're cards can be used there)
well.. usually you will have.. else if you are travelling to metro cities like mumbai, bangalore, delhi, chandigarh..etc.. you have wireless broadband access. so don't you worry for fixed lines..get into wireless mode of connecting .. as well if you are asking your client, he will provide you with one.. if not.. you can always hire.. local private players who will set it quickly.. within few hours..good luck

Overall in terms of acessing net from rented apartments you will be able to surf easily with a ZTE card from Reliance (largest CDMA provider in India) having pan Inida presence. This you can plug in to your PCMI slot of laptop or can be connnected through USB port. It can be bought at any Reliance Web world store at costs aprrox Rs4500 (110$ max) ant gives you Internet on move anywhere in India.
The above cost is for hardware card besides that you will be needing a braodband plan from Reliance which will be around 25$ per month.
