I would love to go on a whale watching holiday, particularly killer whale, but they seem so expensive,?

has anyone evr been on one, and where is the best place to go that isnt so expensive.

If you want a Whale experience then I would save your money as friends have just come back and said all they saw was a distant shadow.

While I'd recommend going to the Maldive Islands. We went a few years ago and snorkeled with a 27 foot Whale Shark. I was swimming about 6 feet away from this beautifull plankton eating giant. Now that's Whale watching. As a bonus the water is warm and the beaches are white coral sand.
I went whale watching from Vancouver island. The actual whale watching trip was not that expensive, but I expect the flight and accommodation could be. (I had a round the world flight for about £1,000 with 6 stops, and slept in a tent and hostels a lot of the time. It was fairly cheap as part of a many stop over route, but expensive as a one off return trip)

I saw some blue whales and a minke whale fairly close to the boat. One of the blue whales came right up next to the boat and breached. This means it swam up in the air so that only it's tail was in the water. It showed it's belly button, and then splashed down and made the boat wobble in the ripple effect.

I also went swimming with dolphins in New Zealand. One of the dolphins came pretty close to me (about 0.5m), but the sea was very cloudy that day and so although there were dolphins there I could not see much under the water.
Probably the nearest location is the Portuguese islands; "The Azores", situated in the middle of the Atlantic. I have had a holiday there - beautiful islands - I did not go whale watching, but trips are available..
