I bought a return flight from London to Sydney for last December/January and paid around £750 which included all taxes, visas and everything. I did find cheaper flights but when I checked out the airlines decided that I didn't want to travel with someone dodgy for 23 hours - reports of no in-flight entertainment, no meals, no toilets even! I spent a lot of time researching and £750 was the best price I could get for a decent airline.
