What can i do i tenerife in late jan/ early feb 2007?
I've been given the chance of free accomodation in Las Americas but i'm only there a week and i am already thinking of hiring a bike and riding round the island, but i'll need some rest for a day or two. I've seen a big volcano on google earth so was wondering if it's worth a visit, but also i'd be interested in anything historical or artistic. (I'm not into nightclubs and i don't like swimming in the sea.)

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands, basking in year-round warmth off the African coast, Tenerife is a split personality . . . lush in the Orotava valley, barren on the slopes of Mt. Teide; traditional villages in the North, all-out-fun resorts in the South. Sample as much of the colour of Tenerife as you can. see http://www.spain4uk.co.uk/balearic_canar.
Wait till the beginning of March ! :-)
If you don't like night clubs or swimming, Las Americas will be a nightmare for you. It's full of chavs. It's a chav's paradise! I like your idea of hiring a bike, but you will be vulnerable on those roads which are astonishingly steep. The traffic is dangerous for cyclists, it's a mixture of the normal "spanish" style but with many tourists driving hire cars mixed in. Mount Teide is well worth a look though. Historical? Artistic? -Tenerife? naaaah!
If I were you I'd just take some good books and chill out, it's only for a week. I couldn't recommend cycling on those roads.
If you don't like nighclubs you will hate Las Americas.
Tenerife is nice at that time of the year,I went a few year`s ago.they were just building Las Americas then.I went to Portadela Cruse (That is not how it`s spelt). That`s how it sounds It is Lovely there but it is the other side to where you are going. You could get to it easy By car.The volcano is worth a visit also.
