Hey it's funny you should ask that, I have a new van (06 reg) and it doesn't have an ashtray (doesn't really bother me as I don't tab) and it doesn't have have a lighter, but, it has a lighter socket, but it ain't called a lighter socket but a .....well I can't remember, but you get my meaning.
The big difference is in the US when you rent a car the lighter is missing and its just to plug in accessories.
