What do you think and know about Portugal? (no sarcastic answers, please?
Hi! I am portuguese, and I am living in London for the past 2 years. I am completely astonished, because most people don't know where Portugal is, and how important it was for the the 15th and 16th century. So I ask you, what do think about Portugal, and what do you know about it?

went there in the summer for my summer holiday.. and it was amazing.
stayed in the Algarve which is really nice.
People are really friendly aswell.. thort ud be all stuck up cus you had just won the football but really was completly different..
deff going back to Portugal.. possibly the same hotel..
only thing I dont rate is the Sangria. not my cup of tea.. :-)
good water parks tho :P

Portugal is right next to Spain, its capital is Lisbon. In the 16 and 17 Century, was Portugal's golden age and ofcourse colonization around the world. Slave trades from Africa to America, and was one of the mightiest navy on Earth back the day. Present day Brazil used to be one of Portugal's colony in South America. Majority of Portuguese are Catholic, and they freakin love soccer, just like myself. Portuguese women are very cute :D, maybe just like yourself :P ;).
I know the name of the country comes from the words: Port of Calais, and that it was an important factor in the discovery of Africa in the 15th and 16th Century. It united with Spain at the end of the 16th century, but became independant again at the 17th century. In 1974, its political system changed.
I visited it in the summer.
I loved most of the country, found Albufeira a bit over the top, but loved lisbon.
I know alot about portugese history and i cant understand people not even know where it is.

i have been in portugal three times. it is a great place, with great people, and a great climate too.
I was living in Boticas, Porto and Lisbon, so practically i saw a diversity of portugal.
i like it and i am looking forward of going there again this year or maybe next year.
the people there are very friendly.
I visited portiqual about 6 years ago i loved the place its very much like spain in my eyes the people are friendly and the language is a like.. i also made friends with a load of people when working in butlins there were all great people and up for a laugh.. and hard working.
I love the country, hate their footy team!
I like portugal alot. i went there once, to oporto (fantastic wines) and other cities, and the effect it left me, was my learning some portuguese eventually

I think you must have met some stupid people..
1. Roman Portugal was called Luisitania.
2. A University was established in 1290 in Lisbon
3. Portugal was an ally of Britain in the First Word War and during the Second World War the Azores were used by the British as a military base.
4. Vasco da Gama came from portugal and discovered the sea route to India.
5. Bartholomew Diaz, the Portuguese explorer, was the first to sail round the southern tip of Africa which he named the Cape of Good Hope.
6 The Portuguese established a trading post in Goa, India, in 1510 i think or maybe 1511
7. Portugal turned down columbus when he asked for finance to for his voyages
8. The wine and fish taste great there

well you make wine , cultivate cork, catch alot of sardines, portugual is a place you go to see when you run out of other places to see
I love Portugal. Went to Lisbon in the summer. Its so laid back. The coffee is good. The people are friendly. You can ride the tram to go anywhere in the city.
To me Lisbon would win hands down compared to other cities in Europe: Best City, Best Coffee (the piece de resistance), Best Meal (sardinha asanas @ grilled sardines.one of the best things Lisbon has to offer), Best Experience (the time when my wife and I boarded Tram 28 and was treated to a spontaneous but utterly soulful fado session by a fellow passenger accompanied by guitar, with the other passengers clapping their hands to it).
However, I do feel as though Lisbon has the most number of senior citizens in Europe!

You have some very good soccer teams, one of whom (Porto) beat Hamburg 3:1 in the champions league last night
There is a very big Portugese quarter in Hamburg, and although I'm no expert, I love the atmosphere and food there

I know it joined the EC in the late 1970s. it is small, but well liked. Very well known for its golf courses. It opemed its tourism market in the 70s and aimed it at upmarket people, as everyone was beginning to afford Spain as it did budget package holidays. Portugal aimed at the upper class. I spent a week in Alvor and didn't like it much. The beach was nice though. I think Portugal is known as a very catholic country and a poor country. It was important for trade in centuries gone by I think/ It has a pretty good football team. The food was nice when I was there I must say. Hope you like the UK.
Portugal is a beautiful country, not too big but big enough to enjoy.the people are friendly, well cultured, they have wonderful food, the best wines, and cheese, the best football players, the men are tall, dark and handsome, the women are truly sexy..what else can I say..I love Portugal and everything it stands for...

I've been visiting Portugal since 1972, and my parents and my sister and her family lived there for about 10 years. I love the country, I love the language (although I must say that I'm pretty bad at it!). and I would love to live there again. What the heck are you doing in London when you could be in Portugal?!
I love Portugal its a beautiful place have been 3 times this year to villamoura will defo be going back next year. Its been the best holidays i have had and i have been to quite a few different countries round the world.
