The Ffestiniog is a great narrow gauge steam railway that winds up through the hills from the waterside station at Porthmadog up to Ffestiniog. When in Ffestiniog there are fascinting tours of the old slate mines, then back down on the train. Theres a good pub restaurant at Porthmadog station. See http://www.festrail.co.uk/ and http://www.llechwedd-slate-caverns.co.uk.
Nearby is Electric Mountain - the power station in a hollowed out mountain under a lake. When power is needed they open a pipe in the floor of the lake, water shoots down and power is instantly fed into the national grid. It is enormous, you are driveninto the mountain in a full sized bus -- makes a great visit! See http://www.fhc.co.uk/electric_mountain.h.
And then just alongthe coast there is the tremendous castle at Carnarvon http://snowdoniaguide.com/caernarfon.htm.

There are soo many things you can do. how about King Arthur's Labyrinth, or quad biking. Or perhaps you would like to go to Pili Palas Butterfly Palace if you want something a little calmer! there are plenty of websites with ideas out there, so take a look. And can i suggest Pembrokeshire in west wales if you want to go to wales again. I am from there, and it is a stunning area.
Camping, while you stay in a hotel !
Places to keep out of the rain? Anglesey Sea Zoo at Brynsiencyn is a safe bet, as is Pili Palas (butterflies) or go-karting near Pwllheli, I'd avoid Rhyl...English is the second language in Rhyl.....they don't have a first language!
Tenby looks great or how about Butlins? I loved it as a child there!
There are plenty of castles to visit, Caenarfon, Conwy, Flint, Rhuddlan, and so on. Climbing Snowdonia might be a bit much, so the railway going up it should be very nice. One great day out is to go to llanberis, since you can visit the electric mountain and Dolbadrn in one trip. Caenarfon is a nice place to visist, as is Conwy
up the great orme, take a picnic and write your name in stones. there is loads to do.
