Has anyone got any tips for flying with Ryanair?

Take your own food and drink and don't expect any sort of service as the staff are normally very unprofessional scruffy school leavers !!

I took a one hour flight to newquay but because ryanair were late newquay airport closed !!
was diverted to BRISTOL ! and had to wait there for 5 hours while they sorted out coaches - no rep or anything to tell us what was going on or anything. Should have been at newquay 10pm got on coaches at 1.30 am and arrived at my b+b at 4.15 am !

I've not flown with them since I lived in Dublin in 2001 but every flight to England was terrible. We literally BOUNCED on one landing, I've never been so scared in all my life.
It's fine as long as you are organised. I have never experienced big delays with Ryanair, but to avoid the possibility, always try to fly out on the earlier flights in the morning - they often leave around 6/7am and can be quite painful - but you will always be on time because you are the first of the day. Secondly, because there is no check in, some people like to go straight through to the gate and wait in line - to get the seat they want. But if you have children or elderly or infirm passengers, they do let you go on first - so often I find it's not worth the bother - because it tends to be a bit of stampede, and I usually end up with a seat anyway.
Another good tip is to eat before you fly - or subject to restrictions take your own sandwich on board - because the food isn't fab - usually a selection of two jumbo subway rolls (dry cheese, or chicken, for example) - at a fiver each.
Finally, ryanair have recently introduced a payment per item of checked in luggage - so make sure you have organised enough when you book (ie book 1 item of checked in luggage each) - if you want more when you get to check in on teh day, they charge you more.
That said, I've never had any terrible problems with Ryanair - it is cheap and cheerful - you just have to treat it like getting a bus rather than a taxi, come prepared and you'll arrive at your destination in great shape and pounds better off!
It's cheap so you cannot expect any quality. Don't forget they fly to cheap airports far away from city center. Save on tickets and spend double on transfers!

check seats and immediate area before you sit down.Ryanair do not have the time or inclination to clean between flights, so if your seats was wet by an incontinent child, or if someone threw up in the footwell, tough luck.
I would say treat the service like you would a tube train, except tube trains are more likely to be on time.
{edit} looking at the above answers made me remember a newspaper article a few months ago.they compared the total cost (including airport transfers to out-of-the-way airports, food and drinks, inconvenience of flying *very early*, etc, etc..) it turned out that _overall_ it was CHEAPER to pay for a BA flight, than a *lo-cost* ryanair flight)

Also make sure of your luggage allowance as they are not generous with their weight allowances.
i had no probs going to dublin, they were great but they do have a different baggage allowance than others, not sure what it is!
They are a cheap airline, a FUN airline. So make allowances if there are delays etc. They aren't BA or Lufthansa and there's no good in complaining when things go wrong. You have to accept that it's all a bit of fun. They do mean well, though. Give them a chance and have fun.
A lot of the answers above are pretty negative about RyanAir. The truth is if you have bought one of their very cheap fares, they are actually a good service for the price. They are not my airline of choice per se but sometimes the prices are so cheap I think it is definitely worthwhile flying with them. I have never had any really bad experience with RyanAir and although the service isn't fantastic, it's not really that bad. Although I'm not sure about their safety (eg. quality of pilots) compared to other airlines.
Here are my tips:
1. Do bring your own food if you want to snack on the flight because the prices for snacks and drinks on board are quite expensive.
2. If you do pay for things on board try to use Euros. You can pay in British pounds but you will be getting ripped off on the exchange rate.
3. If you are fussy about where you sit, try to check in very early to be in the first boarding group, as seats are not allocated.
4. Bring an MP3 player or some other form of entertainment because there is no in flight entertainment.

5. Before booking be sure to check prices of all competitors, because sometimes you really can find full service airlines such as British Airways offer similar or even lower prices for the same routes, from better airports and at more convenient times.

what kind of tips.They are no worse than another airline. They are cheaper and make you pay for checking in bags and for wheelchairs etc, and they sometimes get delayed by a maximum of 20-30 minutes. They are very safe and are comfortable. If they go to an airport near where you want to go and if you are not getting a connecting flight or in a big rush, then there is no reason not to go with them.
