Any suggestions for places to see in Athens?

Will be taking a short break there next month and would appreciate any suggestions. Are there any hidden gems there which aren't as well advertised as obvious attractions?

Answers:
Hi Stuart,
there are many nice places to see in Athens, depends on your interests.
If you are keen on ancient history visit the Acropolis, its museum, and the ancient Agora. From there you can go to today's Athens in the Plaka, where you can eat quite well, have a greek coffee (elliniko) and listen to greek music.

If you like fleemarkets, visit the one in Monastiraki.
If you want to spend all your money in luxury go to Ermou St., quite parallel.

If you like to see things from above go up to the Likavitos hill. Do it at night. So you can see Athens at night. A city that never sleeps.

If you want to see students go to Thiseos, near Acropolis.
If you want to see modern young life go to Psiri or Gazi.

Hope I helped you.
A beautiful city. You can see some of my panoramic photos by going to the following link and clicking the thumbnails: http://www.360travelguide.com/listimage..

One of my favourites was Lykavitos Hill. fantastic views of the city.
sorry, never been there
The Greek Bouzouki if you fancy a proper good night out. Athens is full of them. Your hotel or any taxi driver would be able to advise you on which one. Defo a true Greek experiance
acropolis
