Hi. I am visiting Norfolk, VA, for the first time next week - any ideas for good accommodation please?

If you mean downtown, then the Marriott would be my top choice. My second choice would be the Renaissance across the river in Portsmouth (5 minutes ferry, 25 cents?). Runners-up in Norfolk would be Sheraton Waterside, and Courtyard by Marriott. The other hotels downtown are very much hit-and-miss, in my opinion (Radisson, Clarion). I saw the Sheraton Waterside--which had a $10 million overhaul 2 years ago--going for $59 per night if you go through Biddingfortravel.com, a site which reports on what bids were accepted with Priceline, and what hotels they got. Otherwise, looks like the Courtyard is going for $101 per night with AAA discount.
