7 Irish men travelling to NYC from 3-9 Nov. and need somewhere to stay which is proving v.difficult any advice

We were thinking an apt. but they are proving hard to find due to the marathon that w/end. We are keen for somewhere central and not too fussy as long as its not too pricey, looking to spend less than £400 for the 6 night stay

Answers:
I have been to New York twice this year. In November, the flights are cheap but the accommodation is expensive.

I have stayed in the Comfort Inn which is on 42nd and Broadway (2 blocks from Times Sq)

And the Thirty Thirty hotel on 30th and Madison about 10 mins walk from times sq.

If you can help it - I'd steer clear of the hostels - they are of a different class of scummy over there.

You could look at apt rental outwith manhattan - Brooklyn or Harlem - there are good parts and bad parts to both areas.

You will find it almost impossible to get 6 nights for £400 but if you can do it, good luck!

Also, Staten Island - there is a free ferry over to Manhattan every 15 mins (which passes the statue of liberty)

If you can increase your budget you will find something. but get the cheapest available now - the only way the prices will go is up!

Oh and try www.travelzoo.co.uk they usually have new york offers every now and then.

Good Luck and have a great time!! Make sure you go to Webster Hall on one of your nights out - they have an amuteur burlesque night every friday where girls strip to their knickers.
Have you tired the area just off Manhatten Island? There are some good places in new jersey!
Give them a try! They are still central and public transport is good!
Hope you have a fab time! And go have a look at taven on the green! Its Beautiful!!
Is that Euros or UK pounds?
Euros thats 500 US UK pounds is like 767

anyway in NYC no way unless yu go either harlem which you don't want to do or on Long island which is a trip.

I suggest New Jersey.

I have stayed at Washington hotel (link below) on a weekday and it was over 100 a night and that was over ten years ago.

Anyway check a map for New Jersey maybe there is a cheap hotel in Teaneck,NJ or the like. New jersey is just over the bridge.

YOu may want to consider expedia.com or hotels.com they will give you a cheaper price than the hotel unless you call the manager they are known to match and beat rates of expedia since they actually lose money by having to pay expedia etc.

Best of Luck I hope you enjoy your trip.
Some websites I use a lot for v cheap accommodation all over the world:

http://www.youth-hostels-in.com.
don't be put off by the name, it isn't all youth hostels, a lot of cheap hotels and guest houses are on there too, and you can search by availability. Although since there is 7 of you, maybe a hostel would let you rent a whole dorm or room to yourselves as long as you contact them and arrange it.

http://www.statravel.co.uk
they often have special offers, 3 nights for the price of 2 and stuff like that.

http://www.laterooms.co.uk
Great for picking up left over hotel rooms if there are any

If you want to know if a place you're thinking of is any good or might be a cr-phole, check out
http://www.tripadvisor.com
for reviews of hotels from other travellers.

Have a great time!
The Beacon Hotel on Broadway is v.good
Try this link:

Look under Travel.
I know this sounds too simple but have you contacted the New York Road Runners and checked to see if they have valunteers who have offered to put people up for the MArathon? Itd wortha try.
Try the Clarion hotel on Park Avenue. It's small but clean and comfortable, very affordable. Book early. There's an Irish pub down the street that shows all the games. Good luck.
I did a search on www.kayak.com. Best sight. The only thing I could find for your budget is:
Hotel Riverside Studio
342 West 71st Street (Upper West Side)
1.212.873.5999
$85.00 + tax per night.

Good Luck and enjoy your stay in America!
I'm not sure how much 400 pounds is worth here in the states, but you can expect to pay about $200.00 per night for a double room.

You can find hostels on the upper west side for about $85.00/nt buit you have to share a bathroom.

Try these two web sites.
If you are all single, you can stay with me. (Just kidding!)

Guys, the marathon has special hotel deals for runners.

Other than that, I would recommend the Riverside Hotel. Not fancy at all, but cheap and clean.
My ex-boss lives in New York in a flash apartment. If I send you his address I'm sure the seven of you could take him.
