How is the location of the south of italy different from the rest of italy?
Answers:
the south tends to be very flat. with lots of farm country. the north is very mountainous. it is mostly wine country.
i have found that in the north the people tend to be very stuck up, and are not too fond of americans. The southern part the people are very friendly.
this is not an absolute but generally this is what i saw when i was there.

sicily: we have sun, sea, warm weathear(today is 28 °c!!) in winter too, we have etna, we have snow, good food, works of art and we are really friendly and nice!!!
The location of the south is more southern.no sarcastic comments needed.

I have visited the southern part of Italy now for several years and have become very fond of this area.
You are welcomed in a very friendly way, top food (especially seafood), more warm and stable weather and it's chaper to travel around there.
And - it's off the tourist main-stream.
We have had top vacations in Apulia, Calabria and Sicily.
