I'm Going To France For Three Weeks In November/December - How Do I 'Travel Light' ?
I'll be going as an Exchange Student - so I have to take large work packages with me and I will be staying with a French family . . . .

Make sure you travel wearing your bulky and heavier clothes!
I would take just your favorite clothes you would wear a lot and the wardrobe basics. Besides you'll want to buy some in Paris!

Winter in Paris is damp and there is wind off the water so you will want layers to keep dry. Homes can be drafty depending on age so be sure to pack a lounger (kind of like a fleece sweatsuit)

Mix n match separates (look up core wardrobe principals), a couple of pairs of shoes and personal toiletries. One good "dressing up" dress and a couple of smart but not formal dresses.
Lucky! The key is that you can use each piece w/other pieces. Like the skirt w/the blouse & jacket, pants w/the blouse, jacket w/the dress, etc. A good rule is twice as many tops as you have bottoms. Wash and wear is best for travel as it washes up easily and can be done in the sink & hung in the bathroom overnight if necessary. You will need a coat, gloves, & scarf or hat for cold weather. One pair of casual & one pair of dress shoes.
I spent two weeks in Australia & New Zealand w/a 20 inch suitcase and a carry on bag. For one flight the carry on & its contents had to be packed INSIDE the check in bag. It can be done, but you will probably want to burn your wardrobe by the time you leave (I know I did & left many things there in order to bring home souvenirs).
