Does anyone think Turkey has gotten more expensive over the last few years.?

I am trying to find out why the tourists from Britain are reducing in number and if the cost of beer, drink ect has put anyone of from coming back. Or is it simply the hastle from the locals or long flights. What are your ideas on this subject ?

The reason alcohol has gotten more expensive is that the ruling AK Parti is Islamist-leaning and has put stiffer taxes on booze and cigarettes (for our own good, I'm sure, eye roll). Prices have gone up in Istanbul at least due to both inflation and the fact that people like to be seen in public paying as much as possible for a service or product (yet when it comes to paying employee salaries or taxes, the same "big spenders" quickly retreat)
It all depends on what part of Turkey you are in. Yes, the prices have been rising in the tourist areas. You need to start looking into going off of the beaten trail. I have found that the hospitality is better in other parts of Turkey also.
Slightly more expensive due to the fact that Turkey is busy moving into the mainstream of western economics, but the real problem is that people are scared of terrorists due to ongoing war with the Kurdish population.!
I love Turkey. We usually fly to Antalya but with that trouble there this year we won't be going. That's the only thing that puts me off. The people are nice & the bartering is a good part of the holiday. I've heard from some people though, that they don't like being hassled.
Asda had it frozen 79p /kilo last month, so I think it's getting cheaper as more people get used to it.
Yes,it's like everywhere else the more popular iy becomes
Everywhere has gotten more expensive, also you are getting close to where the troubles are in the near east! This is off putting to some! Also the former east block countries are wide open and dirt cheap for travel!
turkey is quite cheap this time of year but xmas time the shops put up the prices because everyone wants one for xmas dinner.
Hope its not too expensive, going on wednesday
Turkey is cheap! If you stay in Sultanhamet(old part of Istanbul) you can get a room with breakfast for as little as $40.00 a night.I think Tourism has dropped off because of bombings.
The rate of inflation in Turkey keeps the prices rising each year. A beer that used to cost a lira (well, one million before the currency change) now costs almost two in the grocery store. The touts who chase one down the street have actually decreased in number and in their pushiness. The primary reason for the decrease in tourism as a whole is the fear of terrorism.
Yes it has become more expensive - can you name one country that hasn't?! It's still cheaper than the other 'big' Mediterranean destinations, Greece, Spain or especially Italy though.

I think the cost of flights is a major reason: first of all, as you say it's a long-ish flight (3+ hrs, as opposed to 1-2 to Spain or Italy), and secondly none of the cheap airlines fly there from the UK (although some do from Germany, if you're willing to make the connections).

Also, as Turkey doesn't have a real 'open sky' policy, on the main scheduled routes there exist two-way cartels between the Turkish flag carrier THY and their respective counterparts elsewhere (eg. BA, Lufthansa), which keeps up the prices.
I was in turkey near marmaris when the bombs went off but this has not put me or my family off going, im even getting married over there.
yes the prices have gone up a bit but hey it's still cheaper then england & alot of other countries, plus it's beautiful. I love it in turkey & advice people to still go.
Oh my heavenly days, by leaps and bounds.

I spend several days a year in Istanbul and on the Aegean coast. The price of food, hotels, gasoline, and yes drink has multiplied several times. More than the exchange rate would justify.

Cinar Alti, a lokanta in Ortakoy once served a lovely meal for 30$ for two, last April, that same meal cost us $72. Hotels on Bozcaada once went for $20 a night , now the mayor sets the minimum at about $40 and this is in the low season.

If Turks suffer a lack of tourists, the prices may account for it.
