What's the best way to go about working in the US for a year or so for a someone not from the US?

Basically, i'm interested in working the US for about a year or so, not only for general career experience but also the overall experience of working in another country. However, i'm not from the US. What's the best way to go about it?

Answers:
Hello, I've worked in the USA on numerous occasions. I'm from the UK, I don't know where you are from, every country has different laws that apply to visas.

Anyways, my first job was on a career training visa or J1 (usable as a student or graduate, see http://www.istplus.com/internship_usa.ht.

The second way was by a H2B visa. This is for seasonal employment. I only used it for 6 months of summer work but I know people who work for one company for 6 months in the summer then switch companies for 6 months in the winter. For this type of visa you must find a company to sponsor you. Many companies offer these visas for seasonal work. This type of work is generally in hotels or agriculture. If you want any more info email me, I worked in the USA for summers over 5 years.
applying for the job online and getting it before even planning to fly there.

getting a US company to sponser you-start writting letters,emails-sell yourself to them re:your capabilities, your ambitions, what you can offer. Also make pen friends-they could lead to work sponserships/reccomendations. All else fails, take up Irish citizenship as they get priority.
FIND A IRISH RELATIVE ie AGRANNY YOU QUALIFY
You need to plan well ahead. My mate, a fully qualified and highly expierienced nurse, went there to work two years ago and, due to red tape and extra security, she is still working in a factory shop .I would advise you to contact the American Embassy before doing anything else. Good luck.
