Anyone been to gambia?
and stayed at the holiday beach in kololi
Answers:
yes. Its one of the poorest places I've ever been. I loved it tho. Take pens & pencils & paper to give to kids & old clothes. They have nothing. No pen means no school over there & all kids are desperate to go.
Do a jeep safari & take ya stuff there. You'll visit schools that make your heart bleed & cry like a baby for their poverty. BUT. they're all happy.
Be prepared to be followed & begged at.
Take lots of insect repellent & don't forget malaria tablets & jabs.
Best hol I've ever been on.

i have been there, so now you know. great question you asked
It is truly an amazing place, a real eye opener, as someone else mentioned it's poverty stricken but the people are generally fabulous. I recommend a visit to Sanyang beach, which in my opinion is by far the best beach locally - Kololi suffers with erosion in the beach there and the sand has been replaced with shelly sand.
Yes, I`m getting married in Banjul, Party in Kololi afterwards !in 3 weeks time What is your question concerning The Gambia in particular Kololi? Are you talking Senegambia Beach Hotel?or the actual beach club? the strip in Kololi or other areas close by?I`ve been going there for nearly 15 years so please feel free to email me at any time.
Hi I lived in Gambia a year, and got married over there.
I personally didnt like the Kololi/ Senegambia area, bit too touristy, a short taxi trip (yellow ones not the rip off Green tourist taxis) will take you to bars half or 1/3 of the price, wont have to go far.. infact you cant the countries too small.
Most of the and clubs up pipeline and around are frequented by the Gambian middle class or expats, I preferred the Shabeens in Bekau, Capepoint or Serekunda.
Very relaxed country and I would say safe, though there is a bit of petty theft, but the usual precautions should keep you out of trouble.
I recommend a trip to coconut island where much of the local herbs are grown.
Don't take sweets! In fact don't give to beggar children EVER! Their parents take them out of school because they can earn more money begging from tourists! As for sweets, they don't tend to have tooth brushes or access to a dentist out there!! If you want to help, make a donation to a charity or direct to a school. I've lived and worked in Africa on Conservation work so I'm not just passing on Racist hear-say!
