Beginning of the end for the A380?
News is breaking that Virgin have pushed back their order by 4 years and that other customers are renegotiating terms. Virgin are also extending their lease arrangements on Boeing 747s to cover for this.
Airbus now say they will have to sell 420 of these planes just to break even.
Is this whole project about to fall apart completely?

I believe that; like the concorde, it is too big to be allowed to
go belly up and it has gone way too far down the line, but it IS looking more and more like a lame duck every day!
It is possible. All those factory malfunctions could leave to a serious problem and who knows how many A380 have malfunctions. Let's hope that this won't happen.

I think Airbus bit off more than it could chew when it thought up the A380. They gained ground on Boeing, got overconfident/arrogant, announced a new plane, now they're paying for it. The announcement of the A350/A370/whatever it's called now project was just a knee jerk reaction to Boeing.
Meanwhile, Boeing has gained ground in a controlled manner, and is poised to introduce two new planes (747-8 and 787).
Will the A380 die? I'd say abosolutely not. because it's the only thing Airbus has going for it. If that goes, so does Airbus, and there's no way the economic world (nor Europe) would let Boeing stand by itself. They've already invested so much into it, they might as well recoup some of the costs, even if they don't break even. They just can't abandon it completely. However, the A350/370 is probably toast.
