What is a stairway garden in San Francisco? Is it the same as a terraced garden?
Answers:
There are about 300 stairways in San Francisco. I don't know which one is referred to as the stairway garden, since a lot of these staiways are lined with beautiful flowers and gardens.
My top 5 picks are the following:
* Filbert Steps
* Greenwich Street
* Iron Street Stairs
* Saturn Street Stairs
* Vallejo Street Stairway
I would probably say that the Filbert Steps is perhaps one of the most famous of San Francisco's stairways. And although there are cement steps along Fillmore, and with a spectacular view of the bay (on a clear day), I can't say that it compares to the Filbert Steps.
I looked on the web under stairway gardens in San Franciso. After checking out several sites I found this, maybe it will help you.

its the winding road zigzag that goes up in a part of cisco usually decorated with flowers or it was when i was there
I believe you're referring to 'the Fillmore steps' on Fillmore Street. Small, narrow walkway by a wooden stairway up or down a one block hilly area, with homes on either side. In years gone by beautiful gardens were maintained by the residents living there. In these days there are beautiful trees and greenery.
I never miss this sightseeing event with out-of-area visitors! Fascinating!
