Why when I visited a US airport bar did I (and everyone else - age irrelevant) have to show ID to get a drink?

Answers:
Because they have to make it a reflex/force of habit thing to check ID so they never forget to. Hey, I take it as a compliment if I get carded these days.
Um. because you need to be 21 to drink and an ID is used to prove that becuase it has your name, age gender and other things on it. Also its hard to fake/steal and use one (I think).
probably because the bar had been busted too many times for selling to minors, so thety check everybody's ID, regardless of age or appearance
Because americans like power over people, like power to tell you to **** off from there bar if you're english!
It is the law that you must posses ID when ordering any alcoholic beverage. It is weird that 80 year olds would have to do this too but it is the law
I was in America in July, and same thing happened. They recorded names to ensure no one will be getting drunk on plane or having to much plus alcohol on planes. Also law enforcement is very strict over there regarding underage drinking so better safe then sorry! Another reason that my mate though of was that we were in departures and drinks could of been duty free so ID was to show you were not an american national so duty free possibly?
Because the American Police-CIA and airport security may have
been on security alert,
There is a minimum age to drink. By checking everyone's ID, they are not being discriminatory and they are covering their butt.
The US ask everyone for ID due to security. They were not only checking you were old enough but were also checking out your identity due to the thraet of terroism over there at the moment.
