Would anyone recommend Cape Town?

Would like to go over with husband and 2 small kids to do some flying instructor work. Is it a good place to go? Any advice? Or recommend anywhere else?

Answers:
Yes, if you are going to be with people who know Cape Town and it's surroundings. These could be locals or tour companies. If not, then be very careful. I have grown up there and left eight years ago after feeling the cold steel of a gun in my neck because someone wanted to take my car.
Some areas are really nice and peaceful, yet take the wrong turn off and within minutes you could end up somewhere like Hanover Park (or several other similar areas). There you definitely don't want to be. I have seen day-time gun battles between drug dealers fighting for their areas with AK47s, which incidentally can be bought for the equal of £15.
Also remember that Cape Town is now the unofficial drug capital of the world.

I don't mean to bad mouth Cape Town or South Africa but with so many good things said about it (and quite rightly so), it would be unfair to not highlight the dangers.
Do you intend to learn landing and taking off? Or are you just learning 'in-flight' flying?
I thought that was done in Bloemfontein and not in Cape Town, but don't worry, I may not be updated. Cape Town is an excellent place to go to.
why not try vancouver bc canada? its a beautiful place and should be very challenging to you as a pilot. and the olympics are coming in 2010
cape town is an excellent place to go, took my son (seven years) there for two week this last new year he had a ball, not sure about living there but sure private schools are good there, Australia also good for kids not sure about job also new zealands great
I hear Cape Town is a beautiful place. There is always some security worries in South Africa but they were awarded the next World Cup so would believe it may be getting better.
Who wouldn't recommend Cape Town? It's the bomb. Great beaches, the partying rocks, so many awesome things to do.
Don't know about the flying end of it but Cape Town and the surrounding countryside are very good indeed,Great sea food restaurants , wonderful scenery and places to visit. Yes there are policing problems but if your careful and take advice from residents you should be okay.
yes, Cape Town is a great place to live. loads of people wanting to learn new and exciting things. Plenty of farmers need to do crop dusting etc. distances are great and flying is a good way to cover them.

The schools in CT are of a high standard - you will enjoy your time there.
FOR SHIZZLE MY DIZZLE that place is like the most awesomest and beautiful place ever created, may i add the stunningly stunning people espacially them green eyed Capies!! DAMN THEY FINE and maybe your kids could get healthier eyes by looking at these beautiful views
It really is a beutiful place REALLY REALLY REALLY!!!!!!!!.
Cape Town is beautiful.be care full where you go though.some areas are very dodgy.
Cape Town is a very picturesque city to live in and really easy to navigate around. You just position THE MOUNTAIN and go from there.

Kids love the beaches good for walking and swimming.

Great quality of life in the southern hemisphere.
bring sun tan cause it is hot round about now great history great people wonderful places to shop at and the beaches to die for the hotals are very very nice
Great place and can really recommend it. However, make sure you get a job and work permit first before coming over. Difficult to sort it out once you are in the country. But you should not have problems if you are qualified. Good luck and hope you'll be over here soon!

Cape Town is very cosmopolitan.
Cape Town is a beautiful city. If you like having nature close while living in a city, Cape Town is that magical combination. So many beaches to choose from, many different walks on Table Mountain, beautiful forest, large botanical garden, large nature reserve close to the city, penguins, dolphins and whales. Everything a city has to offer in terms of restaurants, night clubs, shops, cinemas, theaters, museums, coffee shops. Excellent schools.
But be warned if you want to work in South Africa, it is quite a procedure. Have a look at home affairs, that deals with immigration http://home-affairs.pwv.gov.za/. or one of the agencies that deal with immigration http://www.intergate-immigration.com/. .
i'd recommend south africa every day 4 the rest of my life! it's the most amazing place to be, beautiful and quite economic 2 live in, compared 2 other countries. go 4 it!
