You should look at a travel website forum, such as the one below.

Well its says that you will soon be doing all of this so i think you should know!
train
im traveling to bkk in december ill be visiting surin where my girlfriend lives be leaving from pattaya ive been advised the most convenient is by taxi sounds expensive but quite resonable.
I Think a travel guide book is a must for you, the LET'S GO or LONELY PLANET are excellent plus you can pick them up cheap. It will tell you the easiest, quickest cheapest, fastest, and more importantly safest route plus all the questions a traveller has it's a must.
No you cannot go by car or by train.
There are plenty of minibuses from BKK to the border (Poipet), with connections on to Siem Reap (Angkor) - get a through ticket in BKK. If you don't want to backtrack from Surin to BKK, then there are buses to Aranya (on the Thai side of the border), and a taxi across.
From Siem Reap to Phanom Penh, there's buses and boats.
Easy peasy, take the local Thai bus from BKK to Surin (make sure you visit Phnom Rung and Preah Vihear as they are both in the same general vicinity as Surin, and they are temples similar to what you'll be seeing in Siem Reap).

Once you've been to Surin you'll have the Thai bus system worked out, so then just get yourself to Aranya Prathet which is the Thailand border into Cambodia. Cross over to Poipet (in Cambodia) and then grab a minibus or even the back of a pickup truck to Siem Reap (this will be an experience you'll never forget, where you'll be travelling like many of the locals do).

From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh you can drive, fly, or take a boat, the choice is yours and it all depends on the experience you want and your time and budget.

You'll love it all coz Khmer people are fantastic
(say hi the the teeth smiling Apsara at Angkor Wat for me ok)
